Eagles Begin NFL Draft Week With a Bang After Monday’s Surprise News

Posted on April 22, 2025

After ending the 2024 season with a Super Bowl title, the Philadelphia Eagles will look to add more talent to their roster during the 2025 NFL Draft later this week.

However, before the action gets underway from Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Eagles locked in another key member of their offense. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Philadelphia signed Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens to a four-year, $68 million extension, which includes $39.4 million guaranteed.

The only Eagles players to receive extensions this offseason were All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun (3-yr, $45 million), superstar running back Saquon Barkley (2-yr, $41.2 million), and future Hall of Fame offensive tackle Lane Johnson (1-yr, $25 million).

That said, it made sense for the Eagles to re-up Jurgens this offseason to a new deal as he enters the final year of his rookie deal in 2025.

With Jurgens locked in through the 2029 season, the anchor of the Eagles’ offensive line is set for years to come. The Eagles drafted Jurgens in 2022 as the heir apparent to future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce at the center spot.

Jurgens didn’t play much as a rookie (18% of snaps on special teams) despite appearing in all 17 games. However, in his second season, Jurgens started in 11 games at right guard, playing alongside Kelce and Johnson.

Then, when Kelce retired at the end of the 2023 season, Jurgens took over at the center spot, as Mehki Becton stepped in at right guard. The former Nebraska offensive lineman played okay in his first season starting at center.

According to Pro Football Focus, the 25-year-old Jurgens had a 56.5 pass blocking grade (48th among 64 eligible centers) and a 68.5 run blocking grade (19th). Overall, he had a 67.1 grade (16th).

Jurgens was credited with four sacks and six penalties, but was still named to the Pro Bowl in his first full year as a starter. That said, the Eagles will be looking for Jurgens to take the next step in 2025 under the direction of Jeff Stoutland.
