Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (4/22/25): Cubs 11, Dodgers 10 F/10 – Amaya’s Dramatic 9th Inning Homer Leads Cubs to Wild Win

Posted on April 23, 2025

The Cubs welcomed the Dodgers to Wrigley on Tuesday night, and weather conditions gave the hitters a major boost. It turned out to be another wild night with massive momentum swings before a dramatic home run in Chicago’s final at-bat in the bottom of the 9th led them to a victory in extra innings.

Third baseman Gage Workman committed an error on a Shohei Ohtani ground ball, which would eventually extend the top of the 1st inning for Tommy Edman, who took Shōta Imanaga deep for a three-run home run to put Los Angeles in front 3-0. The North Siders answered back immediately in the bottom of the frame with five of their own off of Dustin May.

Seiya Suzuki started the rally with a two-run double to left field, followed by an RBI triple by Dansby Swanson. Pete Crow-Armstrong gave the Cubs the lead with a bloop double behind third base. Miguel Amaya fisted a run-scoring single to right that had the home team on top 5-3.

Andy Pages cut the deficit to one with a long solo homer in the 2nd. Chicago missed out on several prime scoring chances the next few innings, but PCA didn’t miss his opportunity when he mashed a tape-measure two-run homer to right to increase the margin to 7-4 in the 5th.

Imanaga gave up another solo shot to Will Smith in the 6th before coming out of the game. The Dodgers followed with their own five-run rally against reliever Brad Keller in the 7th to reclaim the lead. Workman had his second error on a potential double play with the bases loaded to begin the scoring in the frame.

Freddie Freeman and Smith would each double as LA went up by a score of 10-7. Kyle Tucker got the Cubs back in it when he clubbed a two-run homer deep to right off of Alex Vesia in the 8th. Chicago was down to the final out against closer Tanner Scott when Amaya hit a high fly ball that barely caught the basket in left for a game-tying solo homer.

In extra innings, the Dodgers failed to score in the top of the 10th. Ian Happ wasted no time ending it in the bottom half, ripping the first pitch he saw from Noah Davis for a walk-off RBI single as the Cubs won 11-10. (Box score)
