Many see the Kansas City Chiefs’ need to fortify Patrick Mahomes’ offensive line as the franchise’s No. 1 priority after a year that saw 47 sacks, the most in Mahomes’ career.
Jaylon Moore was signed in free agency, but guard Joe Thuney was traded to the Chicago Bears, so one in, one out, and the Chiefs are back to square one.
But the draft is where many expect the Chiefs to take a lineman, and some even think in the first round with Josh Conerly Jr. and Josh Simmons, the names linked with the AFC champs.
However, in Pro Football Network’s latest mock, another lineman, Aireontae Ersery, comes to the Chiefs, and there’s an interesting nugget of information to go with it.
“The 6’6″, 330-pound offensive tackle from the Big Ten is a powerhouse,” Pro Football Network writes. “Aireontae Ersery has a massive frame and is a stalwart in pass protection. When Ersery establishes leverage, he’s nearly impossible to get around. The Chiefs recently hosted him for a 30 visit, the only potential first-round lineman to visit.”
Ersery is the only offensive lineman with a potential first-round grade that the Chiefs welcomed on a 30-visit. Is that telling? We think so.
Teams used these visits to learn about a player’s background and personality and see them work out the way they want.
Now, does this mean Ersery will be taken by the Chiefs? No, but it might hint at the possibility given he’s the only projected first-round lineman to visit
