Lions Rumored to be Among Teams Contacted About Trading for Three-Time All-Pro

Posted on April 25, 2025

The Detroit Lions have been busy at cornerback this offseason.

They added three free agents at the position, including $16 million per year deal for D.J. Reed.

Those moves have led to Amik Robertson being seen as a potential trade candidate because of how crowded the cornerback room is.

Despite the crowded cornerback room, it seems one team contacted the Lions to see if they’d be interested in trading for their star cornerback who is looking to be dealt.

According to Outkick’s Armando Salguero, the Lions were among the teams contacted by the Miami Dolphins about potentially trading for Jalen Ramsey.

They were far from the only team to hear from the Dolphins as Salguero also listed the Falcons, Rams, Commanders, and Eagles as organizations that spoke with the Dolphins.

If the Lions can’t afford to sign Za’Darius Smith, they really can’t afford to trade for Ramsey.

From 2026 to 2028, his contract is worth $24.1 million per year. It also carries a cap hit of $25 million or more in each of those seasons according to Spotrac.

On top of that, the Lions don’t even really need Ramsey.

They signed Reed to a three year deal this offseason to be their number one corner. They also drafted Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. last year.

Arnold was asked to play a lot of man coverage as a rookie and should get better in year two. He’ll be a good enough CB2 for the team to not need to make a huge move like this at the position.

Before free agency, trading for Ramsey would have been an interesting idea for the Lions, but they’re set at corner now and have much better ways they could spend that money.
