The Cubs were linked to the Mariners and Castillo multiple times during the offseason, and a midseason trade for the three-time All-Star makes a lot of sense. Castillo has been one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball, posting a career ERA of 3.55, with only one season above 4.00 (2018). For Seattle, this deal would clear Castillo’s remaining $72 million contract while taking on Boyd’s more manageable $29 million. Additionally, the Mariners would gain two promising young pitchers and Workman, who impressed during Spring Training. If the Cubs land Castillo, they would likely solidify themselves as the favorites in the NL Central.
