Bruins, Geekie Eye Long-Term Deal After Breakout Season
Morgan Geekie has made it clear—he wants to stick around in Boston and become a key piece of the Bruins’ future. The good news for him? The Bruins want the same thing.
General manager Don Sweeney confirmed on Wednesday that contract talks are underway to lock in Geekie with a long-term extension. “We’re in the middle of negotiations,” Sweeney said. “Our goal is to reach a long-term deal.” Geekie, who had a breakout season with 33 goals—26 of them at even strength—plus 24 assists, is set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Wife Sweeney didn’t reveal specifics about the ongoing discussions, he did emphasize that both sides are eager to get a deal done. He also acknowledged the team’s need for additional scoring depth, particularly on the wings, and noted that losing Geekie would only make that challenge more difficult heading into the 2025-26 season.

After a rocky start to the year—including time as a healthy scratch and floating in trade rumors—Geekie bounced back and became a surprise standout. He found instant chemistry with stars David Pastrnak and Elias Lindholm, ultimately becoming a crucial piece of the Bruins’ offense during a season where the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16.
Reflecting on his rise, Geekie acknowledged some skepticism about his production. “Maybe some people thought it was a fluke,” he said during exit interviews. “But I think it came down to shot quality and confidence. I’ve always had a good shot—I just wasn’t using it enough. Playing with guys like Pastrnak helped change that.”
The Bruins are projected to have around $28 million in cap space, according to PuckPedia. Alongside Geekie, defenseman Mason Lohrei is also due for a new deal as a fellow RFA. After making $2 million last season, Geekie is expected to see a significant raise in his next contract.
