On Tuesday, the Cubs continued to strengthen their roster by signing veteran right-handed slugger Justin Turner to a $6 million contract, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. Turner began the 2024 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, playing 91 games before being traded to the Seattle Mariners at the deadline. The 16-year MLB veteran started his career with the Baltimore Orioles in 2009 before getting more playing time with the New York Mets from 2010 to 2013. After appearing in 301 games for New York, he hit free agency and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a move that reshaped his career. During his nine seasons in L.A., the Southern California native became the franchise’s all-time postseason leader in hits, RBIs, and home runs (tied with Max Muncy and Corey Seager).
Following the announcement of Turner’s signing, Cubs star shortstop Dansby Swanson expressed his excitement. “He’s someone that we can really learn a lot from,” Swanson said. “Just his experience, he’s just such a pro at what he does. That will really impact this group.”
