Adrian Peterson arrested on DWI charge hours after Vikings draft party

Posted on April 26, 2025

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to jail records from the Hennepin County (Minn.) Sheriff’s Office.

Peterson entered detainment at 5:16 a.m. local time, hours after he attended the Vikings draft party as a featured guest. During the event, he joined the KFAN 1003 broadcast

According to Patrol Lt. Mike Lee, Peterson was pulled over in an Audi Q5 for driving 83 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone at 3:20 a.m. in Richfield, located about seven miles from U.S. Bank Stadium.

Peterson’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit in Minnesota.

Peterson was released at 7:31 a.m. after posting a $4,000 bond.

The 40-year-old spent 10 seasons of his 15-year career with the Vikings, totaling 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns with the franchise.

He also spent time with New Orleans, Arizona, Washington, Detroit and Tennessee before concluding his career by appearing in one game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.

Peterson previously faced legal trouble in 2014 when he was accused of using a switch to discipline his then 4-year-old son and eventually agreed to a plea deal that included a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault.

The NFL suspended Peterson for all but one game in the 2014 season.

In 2023, he was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport on a charge of felony domestic violence following an incident with his wife on a plane. Charges stemming from the incident were later dropped.
