The Chicago Cubs have gotten off to a strong start in 2025, boasting an 11-7 record and sitting atop the NL Central. Their recent series win against the powerhouse Dodgers only solidified their early momentum. But the loss of ace left-hander Justin Steele for the remainder of the season has cast a shadow over their early success. To stay in contention, the Cubs may need to bolster their starting rotation.

Expectations for Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Nick Martinez Should Look  Different in 2025

Zach Pressnell of Newsweek proposed a trade idea that could address that need, suggesting the Cubs target Reds right-hander Nick Martinez. In the hypothetical deal, Chicago would send outfield prospect Kevin Alcántara, reliever Fernando Cruz, and pitching prospect Jack Neely to Cincinnati in return.

While Martinez has had a rocky start to the season — posting a 6.06 ERA in 16 1/3 innings — he’s transitioning into a full-time starting role after spending much of his career in the bullpen.
