Chicago Bears fans clearly think the Bears have a need that the front office doesn’t believe is true.
At pick No. 132 in the fourth round, the Chicago Bears selected linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II. Linebacker wasn’t exactly a position that Bears fans had the team addressing on the final day of the draft, but after losing Jack Sanborn in free agency, the team does need depth at the position.
However, the story of the Bears’ selection in the fourth round may be more about the position they didn’t address. After not adding a running back on the second day of the draft, there was a belief that the Bears would open their drafting in the fourth round by adding one of the available running backs on the board. Instead, after an initial run at running back to open the drafting on Day 3, the Bears traded back in the fourth round and selected Hyppolite.
Ben Johnson must like the Chicago Bears’ running backs
It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Bears aren’t concerned with how D’Andre Swift can factor into Ben Johnson’s offense. Despite the Lions trading Swift while Johnson was their offensive coordinator, it seems that the Bears have a plan in place for the veteran running back. The plan seems to be an important one, considering the only other running backs on the Bears’ roster are Roschon Johnson and Ian Wheeler. Wheeler was a preseason favorite of Bears fans last year before suffering an ACL injury that ended his season before it started.
One might wonder if the Bears will turn to the free-agent market to add a running back. Regardless of the need, the Bears won’t enter the season with Swift, Johnson, and Wheeler as their only running backs. Perhaps, after the Cleveland Browns took two running backs who could’ve been Bears’ targets, the Bears turn their attention to former Browns running back Nick Chubb.
