Dolphins Trade Idea Sends Disgruntled $72 Million All-Pro to Lions

Posted on April 28, 2025

The NFL draft has finally ended, and the Miami Dolphins didn’t trade Jalen Ramsey, a decision that comes as much of a surprise given where things stand.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Dolphins and Ramsey are mutually set to explore trade options, and the team is still looking to trade him.

Searching for a potential landing spot, Zach Bachar of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea that would send him to the Detroit Lions. The Lions had one of the worst secondaries in football last season, and that was evident during their loss in the playoffs against the Washington Commanders.

“Detroit clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC and entered the playoffs with a 15-2 record last season, but suffered a disappointing 45-31 defeat at the hands of the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels thrived through the air, finishing 22-of-31 for 299 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Lions’ coverage was inconsistent in 2024, owning the NFL’s third-worst pass defense,” he wrote.

The Lions still have a few needs on their defense after the draft, and adding someone like Ramsey could be something that interests them.

For a team that’s in a Super Bowl or bust type of season, adding the veteran All-Pro certainly makes sense.

However, there’s also a massive contract that comes attached to Ramsey, as the Dolphins inked him to a three-year, $72 million deal an offseason ago.

If they’d be willing to take on that contract and send the Dolphins a third or fourth-round pick, it might be all Miami is looking for to cut ties with him.
