Cubs’ Kyle Tucker Gets $500 Million Contract Update Amid Hot Stretch

Posted on April 29, 2025

Kyle Tucker of the Chicago Cubs is simply an incredible player. The left-handed hitting outfielder is one of the best players in Major League Baseball and has done nothing but swing the bat at an elite level during his short time with the Cubs.

Appearing in 28 games, the World Series champion and three-time All-Star is hitting .300 with a 184 OPS+. What’s funny to think about is how Tucker struggled to start the campaign. If he didn’t have a slow start, his numbers would be even better, which seems outrageous to consider when factoring in all he’s done throughout the first 28 games of the year. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, that play will likely be rewarded with a potential $500 million deal.

He added that while some expected him to fetch $300 million entering the year, his recent play and other contracts have only driven that price up. “Remember when Kyle Tucker opened this spring by going 0-for-20 with the Chicago Cubs? Neither does anyone else.

“No one has made more money this first month of the season than Tucker, whose free-agent value has skyrocketed from $300 million to perhaps more than $500 million,” he wrote. It’s important to remember the other contracts on the market. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just signed for $500 million. Juan Soto got nearly $800 million.

Tucker might not be the same type of player as Soto, but one could strongly argue that he’s better than Guerrero. He also plays a more premium position, something the Cubs have to keep in mind when negotiations come around.

There are expected to be many big market teams interested in his services, another factor to consider.
