CONFIRMED: Bears Officially fix draft negligence by signing a Pro Bowl Rusher from Cleveland Browns for $37 million.

Posted on May 1, 2025

In a bold move to address glaring needs exposed during the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have officially signed former Cleveland Browns running back and Pro Bowl standout Nick Chubb to a three-year, $37 million contract. The acquisition aims to bolster an offense that has struggled with consistency in the backfield and signals Chicago’s intent to compete now — not later.

The Bears’ front office faced mounting criticism in recent days for bypassing top-tier running back prospects during the draft. Despite entering the offseason with running back as a clear position of need, general manager Ryan Poles focused heavily on offensive line depth and defensive help, leaving many fans and analysts puzzled. The criticism intensified after other NFC North rivals added explosive offensive playmakers early in the draf

With this free agency signing, however, Poles appears to have delivered a forceful rebuttal. Chubb, a four-time Pro Bowler and one of the most consistent backs in the league since his 2018 debut, brings not only experience but also elite production to the Bears offense. In his career with the Browns, Chubb amassed over 6,500 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry — a testament to his blend of power, vision, and burst.

“Nick is the kind of player who changes the tone of an offense,” head coach Matt Eberflus said in a statement. “His work ethic, leadership, and ability to gain tough yards give us the kind of identity we’ve been searching for.”

Chubb missed a majority of the 2023 season due to a severe knee injury but returned in 2024 with a vengeance, rushing for 1,134 yards and earning yet another Pro Bowl nod. Chicago’s medical staff reportedly conducted extensive evaluations before clearing the deal, ensuring the veteran back was fully healthy and capable of carrying a full workload.
