Laughable former Cub makes history for all the wrong reasons

Posted on May 2, 2025

Little did the Chicago Cubs know that when they traded infielder Gage Workman to the Chicago White Sox last weekend, Workman would make history in his start with the White Sox.

Of course, Workman is determined to prove the Cubs wrong and is looking forward to beating the Cubs when the teams play in the Crosstown Series two weeks from Friday. However, on Wednesday night, Workman proved why he was already beating the Cubs when he was playing for the Northside Crew.

Making his first start with the White Sox at third base, Workman wasted no time in reminding everyone why the Cubs couldn’t move forward with the Rule 5 experiment. During the first inning of the White Sox’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, Workman committed a throwing error. For Workman, it was his third error on the season. Believed to be a sure-handed fielder at third base, Workman’s defense has been atrocious so far at the Major League level.

With his error for the White Sox on Wednesday, Workman has officially become the answer to a Chicago Sports trivia question in the years to come. Workman is the only player in Major League history to commit an error for both the Cubs and White Sox during the opening month of the season.

Cubs fans are getting the last laugh with Gage Workman’s White Sox career off to a terrible start

When the Cubs traded Workman, honestly, I was relieved. The moment the season started, there was no doubt in my mind that Workman was the most over-hyped player on the Cubs’ Opening Day roster. Congratulations on having an impressive spring training, but that far from guarantees you of being ready for the Major League level. That fact has quickly been proven for Workman, as he continues to look like he’s swimming upstream.

Hopefully, this will be the last time that we have to talk about Workman and he just continues to slide further into obscurity with the rest of the Four-A roster that is know as the Chicago White Sox.
