BREAKING; Giants Set to Cut $16.5 Million Veteran: Is This the End for Their Star Player?

Posted on May 6, 2025

The New York Giants have made significant roster improvements, but that may result in some veteran cuts after training camp, with running back Devin Singletary emerging as a likely candidate. After the 2025 NFL Draft, Singletary’s future with the team appears uncertain, especially with the addition of rookie Cam Skattebo from Arizona State.

Singletary, initially brought in as a stopgap starter after Saquon Barkley’s departure, struggled in his first season, managing just 437 rushing yards. With rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. surpassing him on the depth chart, and the selection of Skattebo, Singletary’s role has become even more precarious.

While Skattebo’s NFL readiness is still uncertain due to concerns over his speed and contact-heavy style, he is viewed as a polished prospect who can contribute immediately, which further diminishes Singletary’s spot on the roster.

With the Giants having limited special teams value from Singletary, and with his $4.75 million in dead money manageable after June 1, releasing him could be a practical move. Singletary signed a three-year deal worth $16.5 million, with $9.5 million guaranteed, but the Giants are unlikely to see any significant savings unless they cut him after June 1, 2025, which would save them $1.5 million in cap space.

If Singletary makes it through training camp, he could still serve as depth, especially if Skattebo isn’t ready or an injury occurs. However, even if he survives the offseason, he could face a roster cut in 2026 due to a potential $5.25 million in cap savings for the Giants.
