Boston Bruins Center Playing in World Championship for Sweden

Posted on May 8, 2025

On Sunday, the Boston Bruins announced that center Elias Lindholm would be departing the organization briefly this month to represent his native Sweden to participate in this year’s IIHF World Championships, which begin on May 9.

The 30-year-old signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Bruins on July 1, 2024, and registered 17 goals and 30 assists in 82 games this season. Lindholm scored four goals with six assists in his last ten games of the season and showed late-season chemistry with linemates Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak. Lindholm cited a back injury in August that caused a slow start to the season.

Lindholm helped Sweden win silver medals at the 2012 World Under-18 Championship and the 2013 World Junior Championships, and won the Gold Medal at the 2017 IIHF World Championship. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward was drafted in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft with the fifth overall selection by the Carolina Hurricanes.
