Robert Saleh Reflects on Post-Jets Transition: “It Was More Therapy for Me Than I Was a Help for Him”(Sportskeeda)

In a candid reflection on his journey after being dismissed as head coach of the New York Jets, Robert Saleh shared that his subsequent role with the Green Bay Packers served as a therapeutic experience. Speaking about his time assisting Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, Saleh remarked, “You know I joke with Matt, I think it was more therapy for me than I was a help for him.” (Bleacher Report, SI)

Following his October 2024 departure from the Jets, where he amassed a 20–36 record without a playoff appearance, Saleh joined the Packers in a consultant capacity. Interestingly, despite his defensive background, he contributed to the offensive side, providing insights to LaFleur, a longtime friend and former colleague from their days at Central Michigan University. Saleh’s tenure with the Packers was brief but impactful, offering him a period of reflection and growth. This interlude paved the way for his return to the San Francisco 49ers as their defensive coordinator, a role he previously held from 2017 to 2020. His comeback was influenced by the unwavering support of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, who had stood by him during challenging times in his earlier stint. Now back with the 49ers, Saleh is poised to lead a defense featuring standout players like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. His journey underscores the importance of resilience and the value of supportive professional relationships in navigating the highs and lows of an NFL coaching career.(San Francisco Chronicle)
