The Chicago Cubs have a wealth of young talent making an impact in the majors. On Monday, one of those players was a late scratch from the lineup, sparking concerns about his health.
However, the team received reassuring news regarding their young outfielder. He later clarified that his absence was precautionary.
“It was a collaborative decision to be smart about where we are in the season, not push anything, and take a cautious approach. Nothing too significant,” Crow-Armstrong explained. He was sidelined due to mild hamstring tightness in his right leg.
After discussions with the medical staff and coaches, they collectively decided it was best for him to rest for the day.
Crow-Armstrong attributed the tightness partly to cooler weather, saying, “It was a little colder yesterday, so I was naturally a little tighter…” He also noted, “If it were solely up to me, I would have played.”
The Cubs shared that confidence, as he was back in the lineup the following day. While his last-minute removal initially raised questions, both the team and Crow-Armstrong reassured fans there was no serious issue. So far in spring training, he has been outstanding, posting a 1.396 OPS, a .500 batting average, one home run, and four RBIs in 14 at-bats. Though his career numbers aren’t as strong, his early performance suggests the 22-year-old could be poised for a breakout season.
