Ex-Colts Tight End Has High Praise for Newest Addition

Posted on May 22, 2025

Former Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle was a guest on the May 20th episode of “High Volume with Jeffrey Gorman,” where he discussed the Colts’ first-round selection.

The previous Colt was inquired about his opinions on the new tight end, Tyler Warren, and he expressed admiration for him during the show.

“He’s simply a star—an exceptional tight end.” Clearly, I have a preference for the tight end position,” Doyle remarked during the show. “The readiness to obstruct, his physical control, his stability, his gains after receiving.” The guys are pulling for four, five yards… Get the ball to him quickly, make some smooth throws; I believe he will benefit the Colts.

Doyle attributes Warren’s skill in gaining additional yards after contact and assisting the team in achieving another first down during drives.

“Not having to make your team convert additional first touchdowns is a positive thing, correct?” “We aim to gain yards,” Doyle stated.

Doyle on the Quarterback Competition

The Colts are approaching the new season without a definitive sign of who will be the starting quarterback in the opening week.

The team acquired Daniel Jones with a one-year contract in the offseason, whereas Anthony Richardson is starting his third year in the league.

Host Jeffrey Gorman inquired of Jack Doyle about his views regarding the quarterback scenario in Indy.

“Competition is excellent.” You showcase your rivalry in various forms. “Some men bottle it up, while others express it,” Doyle remarked (17:55).

“However, you need to be competitive.” Every day, we face competition, regardless of whether they’re here or not… It’s important to concentrate on your own path, and that’s what each of those individuals will do… You simply need to be a supportive teammate to them and whoever it may be, that’s who it is. “And we move forward and work as a team.”

Colts GM Chris Ballard mentioned that competition benefits all involved, and the fight for the starting position will be advantageous for both athletes.

Doyle was In a Similar QB Situation

Prior to Jack Doyle’s retirement from the NFL, Gorman noted that he faced a similar scenario with shifts in quarterbacks.

Gorman mentioned the quarterbacks that Doyle has been with during his career in Indianapolis — which includes Andrew Luck.

“It was an enjoyable challenge.” Doyle stated, “It was occasionally tough, perhaps even frustrating, to achieve alignment since you become accustomed to one person before transitioning to another.”

Doyle stated that every quarterback approached the game and communicated uniquely.

For Tyler Warren, he might confront the same problem. Shifting from Anthony Richardson one week to Daniel Jones the next may impede performance during his rookie season.
