BREAKING NEWS: Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Just Confirm Three Top Experienced Star Players Will Leave Steelers Due To……

Posted on May 24, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have received a wave of positive news on the injury front, with several key players returning to practice ahead of their upcoming clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Players Likely to Return

  • George Pickens (WR): Pickens was a full participant in practice for the first time since sustaining his injury. With just a final medical evaluation remaining, all signs point to his return to the lineup against Kansas City.
  • DeShon Elliott (S): After missing the last two games, Elliott practiced fully and is expected to bolster the secondary.
  • Donte Jackson (CB): The cornerback also practiced fully and seems ready to contribute on defense.
  • Larry Ogunjobi (DL): Returning from a two-game absence, Ogunjobi’s presence will be a significant boost to the Steelers’ defensive line.
  • Justin Fields (QB): The quarterback practiced for the first time since his abdominal injury against the Eagles. While his role remains uncertain, Fields could suit up as the third quarterback or potentially see limited action.
  • Tyler Matakevich (LB): Despite appearing on the injury report with a knee issue, Matakevich practiced fully and is cleared to play.

Players Likely to Miss the Game

  • Joey Porter Jr. (CB): The rookie cornerback did not practice following his injury against the Ravens and is not expected to play.
  • Ben Skowronek (WR): The wide receiver also missed practice and appears set to be sidelined.

Implications for the Chiefs Matchup

The return of Pickens provides a significant boost to the Steelers’ receiving corps, giving quarterback Russell Wilson a reliable target downfield. The anticipated availability of Elliott and Jackson strengthens a secondary that will face a challenging test against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ passing attack.

Meanwhile, Ogunjobi’s return to the defensive front adds depth and experience to the pass rush, which will be crucial in containing Mahomes. The potential return of Fields, even in a limited capacity, adds a dynamic option to the offense.

With several key players trending toward availability, the Steelers are in a stronger position to compete against the high-powered Chiefs. However, the absences of Porter and Skowronek will still be felt, particularly in the secondary and receiving rotations.
