BOOM, INCOMING: Indianapolis Colts New Owner, Carlie Irsay-Gordon Issued a Strong Statement to Chris Ballard

Posted on May 24, 2025

Indianapolis Colts chairwoman Carlie Irsay-Gordon has reportedly issued a firm and decisive statement to general manager Chris Ballard amid growing scrutiny over the team’s direction and personnel decisions. With the Colts coming off a string of underwhelming seasons and mounting pressure from fans and stakeholders, Irsay-Gordon’s comments signal a clear demand for accountability and urgency at the top of the football operations hierarchy.

Sources inside the organization indicate that the conversation between Irsay-Gordon and Ballard took place during a closed-door meeting shortly after the NFL Draft. While the team has invested in young talent and appears to have a promising core — headlined by quarterback Anthony Richardson and All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor — questions remain about the Colts’ ability to contend in the AFC South, particularly with rising teams like the Texans and Jaguars gaining ground.

In her statement, Irsay-Gordon emphasized that the time for excuses is over. “We have given this front office the resources, the flexibility, and the time to build a championship-caliber team. Now, we expect results,” she said, according to a source familiar with the meeting. “This franchise has a legacy of excellence, and we owe it to our fans to return to that standard

Chris Ballard, who has served as the team’s general manager since 2017, is well-regarded for his eye for talent and methodical approach to team building. However, his conservative stance on free agency and recurring instability at the quarterback position have drawn criticism. Despite drafting Richardson as the quarterback of the future, the team’s roster still has glaring holes, particularly at wide receiver and in the secondary.

Irsay-Gordon’s message appears to be a turning point. She reportedly made it clear that sustained mediocrity would no longer be tolerated and that postseason contention is the minimum expectation moving forward. With head coach Shane Steichen entering his second season and young stars on both sides of the ball, the pressure is now squarely on Ballard to deliver.

The Colts have not won a playoff game since the 2018 season and have missed the postseason in five of the last six years. For Irsay-Gordon, that’s no longer acceptable. Her directive could shape how aggressive Ballard becomes in trade markets and roster moves as the 2025 season approaches.

In Indianapolis, the message is clear: Build a winner  and do it now.
