BREAKING NEWS: The Packers Officially Announced the Return of Legend Jordy Nelson for OTAs

Posted on May 29, 2025

The Green Bay Packers have officially announced the return of legend Jordy Nelson for OTAs, but not as a player. Nelson, 40, will join the coaching staff as a rookie coach, aiming to pass down the Packers’ spirit to the young players.

“I don’t need a contract; I want to pass down the Packers’ spirit to our young players,” Nelson told The Green Bay Press-Gazette in a statement that has sent shockwaves through Packers Nation.Nelson, who retired in 2019 after a storied career with the Packers (2008-2018), including a Super Bowl XLV victory, is back to mentor the team’s rookies. His role will focus on teaching route-running, film study, and the intangible qualities that define Green Bay’s culture. “Jordy’s presence is invaluable,” GM Brian Gutekunst said. “He’s not here for a paycheck; he’s here to shape the future.”Nelson’s decision comes as he eyes a long-term goal of becoming the head coach of the Packers. “This is my apprenticeship,” he revealed. “I want to learn the ropes, connect with the young guys, and eventually lead this team.” His return coincides with OTAs, where he’ll work closely with first-round picks Matthew Golden and Cooper DeJean, as well as second-year players like Jayden Reed and Christian Watson.Fans on X are ecstatic. “Jordy back? This is huge!” tweeted one, while another said, “Passing down the spirit—that’s so Packers.” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted, “Nelson’s move is a masterclass in legacy building.”Nelson’s coaching stint is unpaid, a testament to his commitment. “It’s not about money; it’s about legacy,” he added. As OTAs loom, his presence adds a layer of excitement and continuity to the Packers’ roster. For Nelson, it’s the first step toward his dream of leading the team he loves.BREAKING NEWS: The Packers Officially Announced the Return of Legend Jordy Nelson for OTAs
