Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux Is All About Breaking T.J. Watt’s Sack Record—But It’s Not Gonna Be Easy
Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Giants’ flashy pass rusher, isn’t messing around this season. Heading into his fourth year in the NFL, he’s still chasing one big goal: breaking the legendary T.J. Watt’s sack record of 22.5 (which he shares with Michael Strahan, by the way).
Thibodeaux came into the league as a top-five pick back in 2022, and while injuries and some inconsistent moments have slowed him down, the dude’s got 21 sacks on his career so far—and he’s hungry for more.
“I want to get more sacks and tackles every time I hit the field,” Kayvon said. “Yeah, I’m still gunning for that record. Every year.”
But here’s the catch: the Giants just added Penn State star Abdul Carter, plus they’ve got Brian Burns still wreaking havoc on the edges. So Thibodeaux might not get the volume of snaps or chances he’d need to chase Watt’s record full throttle this year.
Still, Kayvon’s focused on leveling up his game—especially finishing plays. He admitted last season he had a bunch of half-sacks and missed tackles when he could’ve gotten the job done.
“I didn’t finish,” he said. “Had a few half-sacks that should’ve been whole sacks, missed some tackles at the sack point. I just gotta close those plays out.”
Oh, and don’t forget: Thibodeaux battled a wrist injury that needed surgery last year, which definitely slowed his momentum.
Bottom line? The goal is huge, and the climb’s steep—but if anyone’s got the drive, it’s Kayvon.
