Gonzalez fired an opening round of 73 at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante.
He returned a card for 2-under 71 in the second round which left him at level par after 36 holes.
It meant that the 27-year-old missed the cut by two shots on what was supposed to be a dream week for the golfer considering he was given a sponsor exemption into the $7.2m event.
