The Battle for Olave is Over: Saints Emerge Victorious

Posted on April 3, 2025

A recent development in the NFL has stirred up a conflict between Sean McDermott’s Buffalo Bills and Kellen Moore’s New Orleans Saints. At the center of the controversy is wide receiver Chris Olave, whom the Saints have retained despite the Bills’ interest in acquiring him.

Olave, a 2022 first-round pick, has been impressive with his skills, showcasing strong legs, lightning speed, and cat-like reflexes. His 2024 production, although limited to eight games due to injuries, was promising with 32 receptions for 400 yards and one touchdown. The Bills, looking to bolster their offense after Mack Hollins’ departure and Amari Cooper’s uncertain return, were interested in trading for Olave or Jordan Addison.

However, the Saints’ decision to retain Olave has impacted the Bills’ plans. Olave’s contract, worth $19 million, is set to expire after the 2024 season. Despite this, the Saints are keen on keeping him, and Olave is excited to play under Moore’s new system.

Meanwhile, the Saints are pursuing a franchise quarterback in the draft. (link unavailable)’s Lance Zierlein suggests that they might trade up to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Saints aim to jump ahead of the Giants and Raiders, both searching for a long-term quarterback. Dart has impressed with 29 touchdowns, 4,279 passing yards, and a 69.3% completion rate over the past year.

The Saints’ decision to retain Olave and pursue a franchise quarterback has significant implications for the team’s future. With Olave on board, the Saints’ offense is expected to improve, and the addition of a talented quarterback like Dart could take the team to the next level.
