BREAKING: Chicago Cubs Trade Pitch Send Slugger to Red Sox

Posted on April 10, 2025

As the MLB offseason winds down, teams still have opportunities to make trades outside of free agency to strengthen their rosters. One potential move generating buzz is the Chicago Cubs possibly trading outfielder Seiya Suzuki, with the Boston Red Sox emerging as a potential suitor.

A trade between the two clubs would make sense, as Boston could add a much-needed right-handed power bat to its lineup, while Chicago would gain financial flexibility by moving Suzuki’s $21 million salary for the next two seasons.

A proposed deal could see the Red Sox send shortstop Franklin Arias, third baseman Romy González, and starting pitcher Brayan Bello to the Cubs in exchange for Suzuki. Arias, a highly regarded top-50 prospect, would bolster Chicago’s already strong farm system. Meanwhile, González, who hit .266 with 25 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 89 games last season, could serve as a platoon option at third base, giving top prospect Matt Shaw more time to develop.

Moving Bello, who posted a 4.49 ERA in 2024 but struggled late in the season, would clear space in Boston’s rotation while addressing their offensive needs. Suzuki, who has hit 20 home runs in each of the past two seasons and averages 26 doubles per year, would provide a consistent power presence in the middle of the Red Sox lineup.

While it remains to be seen if the two sides will finalize a deal, the trade presents a logical fit for both teams as they shape their rosters for the 2025 season.
