HUGE BOOST: The Cubs Land Another World Series Champion In Blockbuster Deal

Posted on April 10, 2025

Teams are constantly refining their 40-man rosters. The Chicago Cubs are actively evaluating options to strengthen their lineup and enhance their chances of securing the NL Central division title.

On Friday, KPRC 2 Houston’s Ari Alexander reported, citing sources, that the Cubs are signing former Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski to a one-year minor league deal with an invitation to their major league camp. Since his five-season tenure with the San Diego Padres ended in 2019, Jankowski has been a journeyman, playing for five different teams.

After some inconsistent seasons, he had a resurgence with the 2023 World Series-winning Texas Rangers, recording 34 runs, 65 hits, 30 RBIs, 35 walks, a .263 batting average, and a .357 on-base percentage. His performance earned him another deal with Texas, but he struggled in 104 games, leading to his departure.

Now with the Cubs, Jankowski hopes to bounce back and help a team aiming for its first postseason appearance since 2020. However, after last season’s struggles at the plate, he will need to work his way onto a 40-man roster. While he was a reliable defender for the Rangers over the past two seasons, his inconsistency as a hitter prevented him from securing a guaranteed spot. With spring training underway, he has an opportunity to prove himself offensively.
