The New York Jets didn’t waste a second in free agency.
As soon as it started, they jumped to sign Justin Fields to a two-year deal.
They’ve been nothing but supportive of him ever since, with new head coach Aaron Glenn claiming that he thinks they can win with him.
Notably, that seems to be the sentiment within the organization.
According to a report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, everybody on the team is on the same page.
That’s why they won’t pursue a potential replacement for him with their No. 7 pick.
Per Rapoport, they will look to build around him.
He believes that they could be in the mix to get Boise State standout Ashton Jeanty if he’s still available by the time they’re on the clock.
If not, even though it might be a little early to get a tight end, that’s another potential option for them.
Fields has shown signs of promise in the past.
He’s one of the most athletic, strongest, and fastest quarterbacks in the league, and while his ability to go through progressions and read opposing defenses has been subpar at best, he has never had a team truly believe in him.
If the Jets build their offense around him and allow him to be the kind of quarterback he was in high school and college, there’s still a chance that he turns out to be a star.
He’s young, and if the Jets are committed to him, they might as well go all-in.
