“I Want The Smoke”: Ben Johnson Sends Warning To Dan Campbell As NFC North Rivals

Posted on April 11, 2025

Ben Johnson, the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, has been making waves in the team even before the offseason program kicked off. According to an article in the New York Times, George McCaskey, Detroit’s chairman, said that Johnson is excited to face off his former bosses, Dan Campbell, Kevin O’Connell and Matt LaFleur in the 2025 NFL season.

Ben Johnson was previously the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2022 to 2024. Johnson was with the Detroit Lions in various positions from 2019 until the previous NFL season, and definitely knows the team inside out. Before the Detroit Lions, Johnson worked with the Miami Dolphins in different coaching capacities.

“[Johnson] said, ‘I want that smoke,’” George McCaskey said about Ben Johnson’s rivalry with Dan Campbell, Kevin O’Connell and Matt LaFleur.

Ben Johnson will hope to do a 180-degree turnaround with the Chicago Bears after the team disappointed in the 2024 NFL season, finishing fourth in the NFC West with only six wins and 11 defeats. The team played their very last game of the season against the Green Bay Packers, winning with a final score of 24-22. However, the win was a little too late and the team was shown the door out of the NFL tournament.

Ben Johnson May Turn Up The Heat For Caleb Williams

While Ben Johnson is definitely out to win with the Chicago Bears, this does not mean that everything will be fine and dandy for the players, especially quarterback Caleb Williams. According to Ian Rapoport’s recent statements, Johnson may not make things too comfortable for Johnson, who is expected to have a very trying season under the new coach.

Johnson was truly successful with the Detroit Lions in his stint as offensive coordinator. The Lions truly had one of the best offenses in the previous season and finished at the top of the NFC North with 15 wins and a pair of defeats.

However, Johnson’s coaching style might be quite different from that of Matt Eberflus, Chicago’s previous coach. Johnson likes to get things done immediately, and expects a lot of work from Day 1. Caleb Williams might find this quite difficult, but in the end will definitely experience the fruit of his hard work.

In the 2024 NFL season, Caleb Williams managed a total of 3,541 passing yards, scoring 20 touchdowns, while managing six interceptions. With Johnson now coaching him, the stats can be expected to be much better in the upcoming NFL season.
