Broncos’ Sean Payton Provides Key Update on Courtland Sutton Extension…

The Broncos have several key free agents on both sides of the ball, and one of the biggest decisions they face is the future of wide receiver Courtland Sutton. According to DNVR Broncos’ Zac Stevens, head coach Sean Payton said there is “no timeline” for extending Sutton’s contract. However, Payton noted that Sutton is expected to participate in the start of offseason workouts, signaling that both sides are open to working toward a resolution. Still, the lack of a set timeline for an extension remains a situation to monitor. Sutton, 29, is set to enter his eighth NFL season in 2025. He has spent his entire career in Denver and is coming off his best season since making the Pro Bowl in 2019. In his first season with Bo Nix, Sutton had career highs in targets and receptions, with 135 targets and 81 receptions. Sutton

This type of stuff happens every offseason, but it always feels more impactful when the team is coming off a playoff berth. Especially when it was that team’s first playoff game in nearly a decade.

As we know, Sutton is coming off his biggest season since 2019 and is primed to be Nix’s go-to receiver — especially in the red zone. While Marvin Mims Jr. is entering his third season and elevated his special teams game from second-team All-Pro as a rookie to first-team All-Pro last season and has begun his career with back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances.

However, where his game elevated the most was in the passing game. He was largely ineffective as a rookie and even started out that way last season. Entering Week 11, Mims had just 69 total receiving yards and zero touchdowns. From Wek 11 on he exploded onto the scene with some massive big play potential finishing the season with 39 receptions for 503 yards and six touchdowns

Half of Bo Nix’s touchdown passes went to those two and in most year’s it would have been enough to elevate Nix to Rookie of the Year, but Jayden Daniels had himself a fine rookie season as well.

Overall, this news is on the minor end of importance but its always nice to see the three best offensive players working together every chance they can get to get better. Go Broncos!
