Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Rams announced today that tight end Davis Allen has been dismissed from team activities temporarily to undergo knee surgery. The decision comes after team doctors evaluated lingering issues that Allen reportedly sustained during offseason training.
Allen, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Clemson, showed promise as a physical, sure-handed tight end in his rookie season. While he didn’t get many snaps early on, his development became more noticeable as the season progressed. The Rams coaching staff had expressed optimism about his expanded role in the 2025 campaign.
However, concerns began to arise during early workouts this spring. According to sources within the organization, Allen experienced discomfort in his right knee, prompting further medical examinations. After consultation with specialists, surgery was deemed the best option to ensure a full recovery before the regular season.
“Davis is an important part of our plans, and we’re confident he’ll come back stronger,” head coach Sean McVay said in a brief statement. “His health comes first, and we’re going to support him every step of the way.”
There’s no official timetable for his return, but early estimates suggest a recovery window of 6–8 weeks. That would put him on track to be ready either during training camp or just before the start of the regular season, depending on his rehab progress.
In Allen’s absence, the Rams are expected to give more reps to second-year tight end Hunter Long and veteran Tyler Higbee, assuming he returns healthy as well.
