NFL Whistleblower Exposes Saints’ Draft Plot – Hidden Agenda or Genius Masterplan?

Posted on April 12, 2025

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the New Orleans Saints are expected to target a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft. While veteran Derek Carr will remain the starter for the upcoming season, recent developments suggest the team is eyeing a long-term solution at the position. Since Drew Brees retired in 2020, the Saints have struggled to find a consistent presence under center, rotating between Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, and now Carr, without reaching the postseason. With Kellen Moore entering his first year as head coach, the organization may be looking to secure its future at quarterback.

Although this plan isn’t confirmed, Carr’s contract restructure hints that 2025 could be his final year in New Orleans. Rapoport believes the team could make a move for a quarterback in the early rounds. However, the 2025 quarterback class is not particularly strong, and some top prospects may be out of reach without a trade. Cam Ward is projected to be selected first overall by the Tennessee Titans, while other quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart are drawing interest from teams such as the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and New York Giants.

Shedeur Sanders, who had a rocky draft stock earlier, may have regained momentum with a solid Pro Day performance, potentially keeping him in the top selections. On the other hand, Jaxson Dart could be a more realistic option for the Saints at the ninth overall pick. Dart showcased strong stats at Ole Miss but played in a system known for making life easy on quarterbacks. As a result, he might require time to develop before becoming a full-time NFL starter — an ideal scenario for New Orleans, where Carr can lead in 2025 before passing the torch.

If the Saints prioritize Sanders, they may need to trade up. The Patriots, holding the fourth overall pick, could be a potential trade partner if teams like the Browns and Giants are locked in on other prospects. A trade with New England could land New Orleans its next franchise quarterback and give the Patriots additional draft capital to rebuild their roster.
