Scott Effross, the New York Yankees relief pitcher, continues to struggle with injuries. The 31-year-old right-hander came in as a reliever to start the 8th inning in the Yankees’ spring training game against the Minnesota Twins. After throwing a single 75-mph sweeper for a ball, Effross left the mound at Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Florida.
He immediately grabbed his upper leg, suggesting a hamstring issue. However, the silver lining for Yankees fans is that this hamstring injury is unrelated to the previous injuries that have kept him sidelined for much of the past two seasons.
Effross was traded to the Yankees from the Chicago Cubs in mid-2022. He had a strong 2.54 ERA over 60 appearances for both teams that year before needing Tommy John surgery. In late 2023, he also dealt with a back injury, requiring a microdiscectomy.
Effross returned to action in September 2023, pitching 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, but the Yankees chose not to include him in any postseason rosters to give him additional time to recover. While losing Effross again for any extended period would be a setback, the Yankees have more pressing concerns to address in spring training.
