The Yankees want to acquire Nolan Arenado in a blockbuster trade.

The New York Yankees can add pitchers and a third baseman in a six-player blockbuster trade.

According to MLB expert Zach Pressnell of Newsweek, the Yankees may potentially acquire Nolan Arenado and two more players in a massive trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Yankees acquired:

Nolan Arenado

Ryan Helsley

Miles Mikolas

$25 million in cash.

The Cardinals acquire:

Bryce Cunningham

Roderick Arias

Cam Schittler

The suggested trade would be a blockbuster since the Yankees would get three very talented MLB players while receiving cash for the amount of money they would be taking on. St. Louis, meanwhile, appears to be going all in on a rebuild with this move.

Arenado has been connected to the Yankees throughout the summer. The ace third baseman has three years remaining on his eight-year, $260 million contract, which includes this season. Arenado would be a fantastic outfielder and provide the Yankees with another bat in the middle of the order.

Meanwhile, Helsley would serve as a late-inning reliever for the Yankees, adding to the bullpen’s depth. He is a UFA at the end of the season. In 5 games thus far this season, he has a 3.60 ERA and is 1-for-2 in saves. Mikolas, meanwhile, would provide the Yankees with much-needed starting pitching depth after a string of injuries. He would be a solid fourth or fifth starter.

In exchange, the Yankees would surrender Cunningham, their fifth-ranked prospect. The right-hander was selected in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Arias, the seventh-ranked prospect, is a middle infielder. He expects to reach the majors in 2027 and would provide much-needed depth to the Cardinals’ organisation.

The last player sold to St. Louis is Schittler, the Yankees’ 11th-ranked prospect. The right-handed pitcher is now in AA.

Pressnell’s suggested contract would be a blockbuster and make sense for both sides.

St. Louis has hinted at rebuilding, but the Yankees are fully committed to winning with this core. He also feels New York could just release Mikolas based on their pitching depth at the moment.

“This transaction is little more tricky. If the Yankees can persuade St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Nolan Arenado to accept a trade to the Bronx, he would be an excellent third base option. The addition of Ryan Helsley to the trade would be important for New York. Pressnell stated that Devin Williams, the Yankees’ summer signing, had struggled in the early season.

“Helsley is the major reason this trade is so pricey for New York, but the Yankees would also get Miles Mikolas as a salary dump from St. Louis. In this scenario, the Yankees would release Mikolas and utilise the $25 million to assist pay for Mikolas and Arenado’s contracts,” Pressnell noted.

Adding Arenado and Helsley to the Yankees’ roster would only increase New York’s chances of winning the World Series.

General manager Brian Cashman is delighted with the Yankees’ 7-5 record and lead in the AL East so far this season.

“Clarke Schmidt is returning from injury. Will Warren has rotated through the lineup. These young men are being expected to make major contributions that will allow us to excel. So far, they’re doing an excellent job of getting started, and I’m excited to see where this takes us,” Cashman said.
