Cubs show interest in signing 2-time All-Star To Boost Their Corps Of Infielder.!!

Posted on April 16, 2025

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly looking to strengthen their infield before the season starts, and a former All-Star and World Series champion is among their targets.

According to Patrick Mooney and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cubs are considering pursuing free agent infielder Justin Turner. However, their interest in Turner depends on whether third baseman Alex Bregman signs with another team.

Turner split his 2024 season between Toronto and Seattle after a midseason trade. He finished with a .259 batting average, 11 home runs, and mostly served as a designated hitter. At 40 years old, Turner’s best years are behind him, but he still brings power to the plate along with 16 years of MLB experience.

The Cubs’ third base situation is currently uncertain, though top prospect Matt Shaw could be ready to take over the position this year. Turner might be a good fit as a veteran leader who can play third base, though he likely wouldn’t serve as the full-time starter there. He could also provide insurance in case Shaw isn’t quite ready for regular big-league action.

Much of the Cubs’ plans depend on Bregman, who is holding up the remainder of the market. The Cubs are interested but are reportedly seeking a shorter contract than what Bregman is currently looking for.

The Cubs are clearly interested in adding a veteran presence but don’t want to commit to a lengthy contract. Turner could be a perfect fit if that’s their approach.
