Chiefs in Crisis: Chiefs Doubted by Analysts, Creating Uncertainty in the NFL

Posted on April 16, 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs have appeared in the last three Super Bowls, winning two straight before being blown out in the most recent one by the Philadelphia Eagles. It was undoubtedly an ugly loss, but the Chiefs are still in the midst of a dynastic run. However, that hasn’t stopped analysts from trying to call their shot, and arguing that Kansas City is on the decline.

That’s exactly what happened in a recent piece for ESPN, where several analysts gave their thoughts on the offseason so far. The group of experts were asked which team took a step backwards this offseason, and two of the eight analysts, Aaron Schatz and Seth Walder, answered the Chiefs. Both agreed that Kansas City’s already questionable offensive line got worse, and that the loss of veteran safety Justin Reid will hurt the team. The Chiefs. They entered the offseason with the offensive line as a question, and we should feel less confident in that group now. Joe Thuney is gone and an unproven Jaylon Moore is in at left tackle. Plus, Justin Reid’s departure will likely hurt the defense.Seth Walder (ESPN).

ESPN criticizes the Chiefs for losing two important veterans

Both Schatz and Walder acknowledged the addition of Kristian Fulton, as well as the other talented young defensive backs in the secondary, but the main message from both is that the Chiefs need to find more help in the draft. Walder believes Kansas City needs to select a tackle early in the draft, while Schatz makes the case for finding another cornerback to bolster the secondary.

It would be smart to draft a cornerback in the first couple of rounds who can compete with Kristian Fulton and Jaylen Watson for a starting job on the outside. This could then allow Trent McDuffie to play more in the slot again, which in turn would free Chamarri Conner to replace Reid at safety.Aaron Schatz (ESPN)
