Posted on April 17, 2025

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Infielder Jon Berti has the opportunity to earn up to $1.3 million in performance bonuses on top of his $2 million base salary with the Chicago Cubs.

As part of his contract, announced on Jan. 28, Berti would receive $150,000 for reaching 200 and 250 plate appearances, $300,000 for 400 and 450, and $400,000 for 500.

The 35-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Jan. 22, missed a significant portion of last season due to a left calf strain. In 25 games with the New York Yankees, he hit .273 with one home run and six RBIs.

Berti debuted in the majors with Toronto in 2018 and spent five seasons with Miami. The versatile utility player has a career batting average of .259, along with 24 home runs, 126 RBIs, and 97 stolen bases across 461 games.
