Free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers ended his monthslong absence from his weekly appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” to let NFL fans know what he’s been up to since the season ended and he parted ways with the New York Jets.
Without divulging too much detail, Rodgers made it known he’s been dealing with some personal issues away from football that has taken up much of his attention, seemingly explaining why he hasn’t made a decision about whether or not he wants to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers or retire.
He also first-year Jets head coach Aaron Glenn on blast, painting a not-so-favorable picture of how Glenn informed him he was being released, which Rodgers seemingly believe was cold and callous.
And while Rodgers at least gave some explanation about what his future holds-he made it clear he won’t be bullied into signing with a team before he’s ready, if he signs with anyone at all-his interview didn’t really give the Steelers or NFL fans any kind of clarity on anything.
Former New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel even went as far as to accuse Rodgers of lying during his interview with McAfee, seemingly claiming the four-time MVP was trying to paint himself in a favorable light by saying money isn’t a driving factor in which team he signs with next.
“You’re trying to control the narrative,” Daniel said of Rodgers. “I just don’t understand why he said he’s going to play for $10 million which is clearly not the fact. He might play for $10M for Minnesota, but Minnesota doesn’t want him. All this tells me is that he’s trying to capture in and control back the narrative when the Steelers, they might want
Daniel also expressed frustration that Rodgers essentially showed up on television, told everyone to quit hounding him about making a decision, and went right back into isolation.
“How much longer are you going to string teams along?” Daniel asked. “Because eventually these teams are going to have to know what’s happening. … We knew retirement was [potentially] gonna be the case for him. We’ve all said that. You’re telling us nothing that we’ve heard and it’s just an interesting way to get the messaging out.”
