4 Eagles breakout candidates who can thrive with extra responsibilities in 2025

Posted on April 10, 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles’ roster looks a little different from the one that achieved Super Bowl glory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Nobody expected anything less, but it could represent opportunities for others to step up and fill voids.

Howie Roseman let some productive performers take their chances elsewhere in free agency. He released highly-paid veterans whose production no longer matched the price tag. This is all part of the business, and the general manager has proven capable of keeping things ticking over effortlessly throughout his tenure.

New signings arrived with the promise of another rich crop of prospects from the college ranks to also consider. But these four Eagles players could be set for breakout campaigns in 2025 with extra responsibilities on their respective shoulders.

Eagles players who could achieve breakout status in 2025

Moro Ojomo, DL

The Eagles lost Milton Williams in free agency as expected. His sensational playoff performances were always going to attract significant interest on the open market. Philadelphia was never going to match the offer he received from the New England Patriots.

Roseman will add to the defensive front at some stage during the draft. But for now, Moro Ojomo stands to benefit most from Williams’ departure.

Ojomo flashed tremendous promise as a pass-rusher when called upon last season. He displays some weakness against the run, but there could be more on the way with another offseason to develop chemistry with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.

Kelee Ringo, CB

Darius Slay and James Bradberry are no longer around. The Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean as their young cornerbacks of the future. Less is known of Kelee Ringo, but the former Georgia star could get a shot to firmly establish himself in 2025.

Ringo was a highly touted college prospect once upon a time. He’s been brought along gradually by the Eagles but flashed promise in coverage when called upon. If his development goes according to plan this offseason, that could be enough for prolonged involvement next time around.

Nolan Smith Jr., EDGE

After Josh Sweat departed for the Arizona Cardinals in free agency, Nolan Smith Jr. instantly became the team’s most promising pass-rusher. His 6.5 sacks last season leave reasons for encouragement, although the Eagles will probably add to their edge-rushing arsenal during the 2025 NFL Draft.

Smith is explosive with the necessary bend to cause havoc when early momentum is generated. Going from a mid-level option to the primary edge-rushing threat is a steep rise in expectations, but the former first-round pick’s trajectory is pointing up nonetheless.

Kenyon Green, OL

The Eagles trading for Kenyon Green raised a few eyebrows around the league. However, this has similarities to their acquisition of Mekhi Becton.

Like Becton, Green hasn’t met his pre-draft billing as yet. He’s got the physical gifts, but something is missing. Placing him on a dominant Philadelphia offensive line has the scope to change everything for the player if he seizes the moment.

Look what it did for Becton.

This is a low-risk, high-reward pickup by the Eagles. One that will further cement Roseman’s genius if it comes off.
