While there was uncertainty about what the Las Vegas Raiders would do with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, running back Ashton Jeanty was more than confident the team would take him.
Before the draft, general manager John Spytek revealed that his son threatened to disown him if he didn’t take the Boise State superstar at No. 6.
“My oldest son has made it no secret that if we don’t pick Ashton Jeanty at six, that he’s walking out of the family and he’s gonna find somebody else,” Spytek said to Sirius XM NFL Radio. “Probably whoever takes Ashton.
“He walked right into our building and basically told (Raiders owner) Mark Davis, ‘If my dad doesn’t take Ashton Jeanty, he’s doing a bad job,’” Spytek added.
After the Raiders made the pick of Jeanty official, the rookie running back revealed that he knew Las Vegas wouldn’t pass on him after hearing what Spytek’s son said.
Jeanty also revealed that he faced off with head coach Pete Carroll in a one-on-one “shooting contest” and went on to beat him. Jeanty joked that his victory over Carroll “sealed the deal” for the Raiders to draft him.
“That might have sealed the deal,” Jeanty said.
Jeanty will now take the reins of a Raiders backfield that is coming off a terrible year and didn’t have a sure starter in the room. We’ll see if he can live up to the high expectations he had going into the draft.
