Bears Make Record-Setting Decision Involving Key Defensive Player

Posted on April 14, 2025

General Manager Ryan Poles and the front office made history on the business side of the NFL on Sunday afternoon – agreeing to terms with cornerback Kyler Gordon. The contract is a three-year, $40 million extension, $31.25 million of which is guaranteed. ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter made the report:

As Schefter shared, the deal is all the end of the 2028 season, so Gordon has a home for quite some time. During the 2024 season, Gordon finished with 75 TOT, 48 SOLOs, 27 ASTs, and added five PDs. However, his efforts were not enough for the Chicago Bears to make any run for a playoff appearance. Head coach Ben Johnson’s squad suffered a record of 5-12; his team’s wins came against the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Green Bay Packers. All things considered, the teams listed were not the best, either, compared to the rest of the league. Despite the efforts of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who threw for over 3,500 passing yards, the Bears were unable to reach at least six wins. Or even for that matter, running back D’Andre Swift’s performance of 959 yards was not enough, either.

Overall, the Bears were dead last in team total offense stats, per ESPN. And to create a bigger picture, the Baltimore Raves accumulated a total of 7,224 yards while the Bears accounted for 4,839. For what it’s worth, this contract Gordon has places high expectations on him and the defense in order to help the organization land on the positive side of the record column this coming 2025 calendar year.
