Bold Move: Chicago Cubs Could Land Another Trade Spot For Two-Time World Series Champion

Posted on April 13, 2025

The Chicago Cubs have been one of the most active teams this offseason, acquiring Kyle Tucker and Ryan Pressly to overhaul their roster. With the NL Central wide open, they’re positioning themselves as strong contenders, but they may not be finished yet. The Cubs are still in the hunt for Alex Bregman, and adding the two-time All-Star could make them the favorites in the division.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter predicts Bregman would slot into the heart of the Cubs’ lineup, creating a potent offense alongside Ian Happ, Tucker, and Seiya Suzuki. “The Cubs remain one of the teams tied to Alex Bregman as his free agency extends into February.

While signing him would block top prospect Matt Shaw, it would also prevent the Cubs from relying on an untested player in the starting lineup to open the season,” Reuter wrote. Acquiring Bregman would solidify third base and strengthen the Cubs’ lineup, putting them in prime position to compete in 2025.

Is Kyle Tucker back? Astros eye weekend return for outfielder.

The Cubs still face uncertainty at third base, as top prospect Matt Shaw might not be ready for the majors by Opening Day. Without Bregman, they would have to rely on Jon Berti or Rule 5 selection Gage Workman, potentially leaving their offense weaker. Adding Bregman would make an immediate impact, solidifying third base and giving the lineup another proven bat.

Off the field, Bregman has a connection to the Cubs through his former Astros teammate, Kyle Tucker, who could play a role in recruiting him to Chicago. Reports indicate Bregman is looking for a short-term, high-value contract with opt-outs, a common strategy for free agents at this point in the offseason.

With a solid pitching staff, a bolstered bullpen, and an already capable offense, the Cubs are poised to become a dominant force in the Central. If they land Bregman, they wouldn’t just be division favorites—they’d also be serious contenders in 2025.
