Boston Bruins Center Paval Zacha Reportedly Rejected Canadien $19 Million Contract Offer Declares Lifelong Loyalty to Bruins in Stunning Commitment to End Career In Boston””

Posted on May 29, 2025

In a defining moment for both player and franchise, Pavel Zacha has solidified his future with the Boston Bruins, signing a four-year, $19 million contract extension that underscores his commitment to the team.

The deal, which carries an average annual value of $4.75 million, extends through the 2026–27 NHL season, ensuring that the 6-foot-3 Czech center remains a central figure in Boston’s lineup .

Zacha’s journey to this point has been marked by resilience and adaptability.

After being selected sixth overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he spent seven seasons with the organization before being traded to the Bruins in July 2022 in exchange for forward Erik Haula . Upon his arrival in Boston, Zacha signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract, viewing it as an opportunity to prove himself and earn a long-term role with the team.

His performance during the 2022–23 season validated that belief. Zacha appeared in all 82 regular-season games, recording 21 goals and 36 assists for a career-high 57 points. His versatility allowed him to play both center and wing positions, providing the Bruins with valuable depth and flexibility. In the playoffs, he contributed six assists over seven games, further demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure .

The 2023–24 season saw Zacha continue his upward trajectory. In 76 games, he tallied 20 goals and a career-high 58 points, solidifying his role as a top-six forward and a key component of the Bruins’ offensive strategy . His contributions were particularly crucial following the retirements of longtime centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, as Zacha stepped into a more prominent role and provided leadership to a transitioning roster .

Zacha’s commitment to the Bruins extends beyond the ice. He has expressed a deep appreciation for the organization’s culture and the support of his teammates. “When I got the news that I was going to be traded here in the summer, I was hoping that I was going to show myself and be able to be here for a long time,” Zacha said. “I’m happy that it happened. It’s a start. It’s my first season, and I have to prove myself and show why I’m here and why I’m going to be here for a longer time” .

His dedication has not gone unnoticed by his peers. Captain Patrice Bergeron praised Zacha’s work ethic and integration into the team, stating, “I think he took the one-year deal and wanted to make a name for himself in this locker room, and he’s definitely done that. It’s well deserved, and we’re happy to have him” .

General Manager Don Sweeney echoed these sentiments, highlighting Zacha’s versatility and importance to the team’s future. “I think that his versatility has shown through,” Sweeney said. “Plays in all situations in a hockey game and has been a big part of our group. Fit in very well. Comfortable with several of his countrymen. But overall, a very well-liked young man that we’re happy to have going forward and addresses a positional need in the future” .

Zacha’s commitment to the Bruins reflects a mutual belief in the team’s direction and his role within it. As Boston continues to navigate a period of transition, his presence provides stability and experience to a roster blending veteran leadership with emerging talent. With his contract extension secured, Zacha is poised to be a central figure in the Bruins’ pursuit of sustained success in the coming seasons.
