Breaking: Cubs 33-year-old Power-Threat Player opts out of Cubs deal to sign minor league contract with White Sox

Posted on April 15, 2025

Outfielder Travis Jankowski has signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox after opting out of his previous deal with the Chicago Cubs. The 33-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having played for teams including the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers. Notably, he was part of the Rangers’ 2023 World Series-winning team, contributing significantly as a fourth outfielder.

In the 2023 World Series, Jankowski stepped up during an outfield injury, starting in Games 4 and 5. He went 2-for-8 at the plate, scoring two runs and adding two RBIs, playing a pivotal role in securing the franchise’s first title.

Jankowski’s career statistics reflect his role as a reliable bench player and defensive asset. Over his ten-season career, he has accumulated a .236 batting average, hitting 11 home runs and recording 96 RBIs. His versatility in the outfield and speed on the basepaths have been valuable assets to his teams.

The White Sox’s acquisition of Jankowski addresses current challenges in their outfield. With Andrew Benintendi sidelined for 4–6 weeks due to a broken hand and Austin Slater also dealing with an injury, the team sought to bolster their outfield depth. Jankowski’s experience and skill set position him well to contribute during this period.

Jankowski’s familiarity with White Sox manager Will Venable, from their time together with the Rangers, played a role in his decision to join the team. He expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, highlighting the team’s transparency and the positive environment within the clubhouse.

The White Sox’s proactive approach in signing Jankowski reflects their commitment to maintaining a competitive roster despite recent injuries. His addition provides valuable depth and experience, enhancing the team’s bench strength as they navigate the early part of the season.

Jankowski’s signing also underscores the White Sox’s strategy of leveraging veteran experience to complement their existing roster. His presence is expected to offer leadership and stability, particularly for younger players adjusting to major league play.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Jankowski’s integration into the White Sox lineup. Fans and analysts alike anticipate how his contributions will impact the team’s performance, especially in the outfield and off the bench.
