BREAKING: Former Collingwood legendary Coach Mick Malthouse Returns to Collingwood in Stunning Football Comeback as Special…

Posted on June 6, 2025

In a sensational twist that has electrified the AFL world, legendary coach Mick Malthouse is returning to the Collingwood Football Club — this time as the new *Special Coaching Director*. After over a decade away from the club he once led to premiership glory, Malthouse says the decision was driven by heart, loyalty, and unfinished business.

“I’ve always said Collingwood was more than just a club to me — it’s family,” Malthouse told reporters at a packed press conference at the Holden Centre earlier today. “My heart has never really left the black and white. I want to give the Magpies every bit of wisdom I have left — until I simply can’t anymore.”

The 70-year-old coaching icon, who led Collingwood to their unforgettable 2010 premiership and three consecutive Grand Final appearances, was welcomed back by club President Jeff Browne and current head coach Craig McRae, who described the appointment as “a masterstroke.”

“Mick’s presence is magnetic,” McRae said. “Having him around, especially for our younger players, is an incredible asset. He brings history, intensity, and deep love for this club.”

Malthouse’s new role will see him serve as a mentor and strategic adviser across all levels of the club, with a particular focus on leadership development and finals preparation. Insiders say his return has already sparked energy and emotion within the playing group.

Fans, too, have reacted with overwhelming excitement. Social media has exploded with messages of support and disbelief, with one tweet reading, “Mick’s back at the ‘Pies — feels like the footy gods are smiling again.”

Malthouse, a Hall of Fame coach and one of the most respected minds in the game’s history, made it clear: “I’m not here to take over — I’m here to give back. Footy is in my blood. Collingwood is in my soul.”

And just like that, one of football’s most compelling figures is back where he belongs

— in black and white.
