Breaking: Former Rams Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Hints At Expected Trade On June 1

Posted on May 30, 2025

The NFL offseason has reached a lull now that the initial free agency wave is over, but big moves could still happen during the summer months.

There have been rumblings that Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey may soon find a new home after he was granted permission to seek a trade amid frustration with the direction of the franchise.

The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as a potential landing spot given their need in the secondary and familiarity with the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Many believe that the Dolphins are holding off on a trade until June 1, when they could lower Ramsey’s dead cap charge, and the 30-year-old is counting down the days.

The Dolphins would owe only $6.7 million against the cap if they trade Ramsey after June 1, as opposed to a $25.2 million hit if he is moved before that date.

Ramsey will earn $24.2 million this season, though his base salary is only $1.3 million as the rest of the money will be paid out as bonuses. He signed a three-year, $72.1 million contract extension that is set to begin in 2026.

The Rams are not only well-positioned to acquire Ramsey from a draft capital and salary perspective, but several members of the organization seem to be in favor of a trade coming to fruition.

Quentin Lake expressed his hope that the Rams will work out a deal to bring back Ramsey and believes the veteran would make an already good secondary even stronger.

Sean McVay open to Rams bringing back Jalen Ramsey

Rams head coach Sean McVay said last month that he is open to the idea of the team bringing back Jalen Ramsey, but noted there would be a lot of moving parts to make it work.

“He’s a great player. We know him very well. We know him intimately. You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that, but like Les articulated, our focus and concentration are on this week’s upcoming draft,” McVay said.

“There are a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude and some of the different things that accompany that, but you would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud and a guy that can do a lot of different things, like he’s continued to do. Like he did here, like he did in Jacksonville and like he’s done over the last couple of years in Miami.”
