According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Indianapolis Colts are scheduled to host Texas A&M defensive end Shemar Stewart for a Top 30 pre-draft visit — a nod to their serious interest in the incredibly gifted prospect
Stewart has emerged as one of the most talked-about players in this year’s draft class thanks to his rare athletic profile. Measuring 6’5” and weighing 267 pounds, he posted a perfect 10.0 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) at the NFL Scouting Combine — a metric used to evaluate athletic performance from Combine and Pro Day results. In today’s NFL, where elite athleticism is becoming increasingly common among edge rushers, Stewart stands out even among the best.
However, his draft stock has sparked debate due to his limited college production. While he clearly possesses freakish physical traits, Stewart only recorded 4.5 sacks over three seasons at Texas A&M. Despite his clear growth as a run defender, his lack of consistent pass-rushing numbers has left scouts divided — especially for someone often projected as a first-round talent.
That said, comparisons have been made to Jaguars defensive end Travon Walker, who was also considered a raw but high-upside pick and is now a key player in Jacksonville’s defense.
Stewart’s draft projection has shifted over time, once considered a possible top-10 pick but now more likely to fall to the back end of the first round — or even early in the second.
If his stock had remained higher, some Colts fans might have raised eyebrows given GM Chris Ballard’s track record of drafting highly athletic players with limited college production, particularly at the edge rusher position.
Still, there’s a plausible path where the Colts trade down in the first round to gain more picks and then roll the dice on Stewart — or potentially move up from the second round to grab him if he begins to slide.
