Boston BruinsBREAKING: MARCO STURM RETURNS TO BOSTON AS NEW BRUINS HEAD COACH IN STUNNING FRANCHISE MOVE… READ MORE….Published 7 hours ago on June 3, 2025By saaor

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the NHL and reignited excitement among Boston Bruins fans, the organization has officially appointed Marco Sturm as the new head coach. The decision marks a dramatic return for the former Bruins winger, signaling a bold new era for the franchise following a disappointing end to the 2024–25 season.

Sturm, 46, is no stranger to the Bruins or the city of Boston. He played five seasons with the team between 2005 and 2010, becoming a fan favorite for his scoring touch, leadership, and tenacity on the ice. Now, 15 years after he last wore the spoked-B jersey, he’s coming back to lead from behind the bench.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning by Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney, who praised Sturm’s vision, experience, and ability to connect with both veteran players and emerging talent.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marco back to Boston,” said Sweeney. “He embodies the spirit of Bruins hockey and brings with him a wealth of international and developmental coaching experience. We believe he is the right person to lead this team forward and help us compete at the highest level.”

Sturm has built an impressive résumé behind the bench since retiring as a player. He served as head coach of the German national team, leading them to a historic silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Most recently, he was the head coach of the AHL’s Ontario Reign, the Los Angeles Kings’ top affiliate, where he was credited with developing several top NHL prospects.

The decision to appoint Sturm comes after the Bruins parted ways with interim head coach Joe Sacco, who stepped in following the midseason firing of Jim Montgomery. Despite a strong regular season start, the Bruins faltered in the playoffs, prompting a leadership change and a search for fresh direction.

“Marco’s ability to relate to players, implement structured systems, and maintain accountability aligns with the identity we’re trying to rebuild here,” said Sweeney. “We know this fanbase demands excellence, and so do we.”

Sturm’s appointment has already generated buzz throughout the league and excitement across Boston. Social media lit up with messages of support and nostalgia, as fans welcomed back a familiar face now tasked with a much larger mission.

Speaking at his introductory press conference, Sturm expressed gratitude and determination.

“I’m incredibly honored to be back in Boston — this city and this team mean a lot to me,” said Sturm. “Coaching the Bruins is an incredible opportunity and responsibility. I’m ready to get to work and help bring this team back to championship contention.”

Sturm will begin his tenure immediately, with offseason planning and roster evaluations already underway. He inherits a Bruins squad with a mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, but one that needs retooling to return to Stanley Cup contention.

As Boston turns the page, the spotlight now shines on Marco Sturm — the returning hero tasked with restoring the glory of the black and gold.
