BREAKING NEWS: Boston Bruins’ Center Morgan Geekie Shocks NHL World After Rejecting $27.5M Deal offer and Sign $33 Million Extension; Declares “No Plans Beyond Being a Bruin”…

Posted on July 3, 2025

In a stunning twist that has rippled across the NHL landscape, Boston Bruins center Morgan Geekie has left fans and analysts equally speechless after rejecting a reported $27.5 million free agency offer from an undisclosed team, instead choosing loyalty over luxury by re-signing with the Bruins on a six-year, $33 million contract extension.

The news was made official late Monday evening by Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney, who hailed Geekie as a “cornerstone of our next era.” The announcement comes after weeks of speculation surrounding Geekie’s future, with insiders suggesting the 26-year-old was being aggressively courted by several franchises eager to lock down his blend of grit, skill, and two-way dependability.

Yet despite more lucrative options potentially being on the table, Geekie made his stance unequivocally clear during the press conference that followed the announcement.

“I have no plans beyond being a Bruin,” Geekie said, his voice calm but resolute. “This is where I’ve grown, where I’ve been challenged, and where I want to win. That means more to me than chasing a bigger number.”

A Bold Statement of Loyalty

Geekie’s decision represents a powerful counterpoint to the growing trend of players seeking big-market exposure and astronomical paydays. By turning down a $30.5 million offer—which was reportedly front-loaded and incentive-heavy—Geekie showed that his priorities are deeply rooted in Boston’s culture, vision, and championship aspirations.

The six-year, $33 million contract will keep him in black and gold through the 2030-2031 season, with an average annual value (AAV) of $5.5 million. According to team sources, the deal includes a full no-trade clause in the first three years and a modified clause in the latter half, demonstrating the Bruins’ full commitment to making Geekie a centerpiece of their long-term plans.

From Underdog to Essential Piece

Geekie, who joined the Bruins in 2023, has evolved dramatically from a depth forward into one of Boston’s most consistent and clutch performers. After posting a career-best season last year—scoring 21 goals and registering 37 assists for a total of 58 points—he established himself as a versatile force capable of centering the second line, quarterbacking the power play, and killing penalties with tenacity.

His physicality, hockey IQ, and locker room leadership quickly made him a fan favorite. But perhaps more importantly, Geekie filled a vital void for a Bruins squad transitioning out of the Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci era.

Sweeney emphasized Geekie’s importance to the team’s ongoing identity.

“Morgan is the kind of player who embodies what it means to be a Bruin—tough, smart, accountable, and unselfish. He’s taken on every challenge we’ve given him and only gotten stronger. This extension is as much about who he is as a person as it is about his performance on the ice.”

Teammates React With Excitement

Geekie’s teammates were quick to respond on social media and during post-practice interviews. Captain Brad Marchand praised the move, calling Geekie “one of the glue guys who holds it all together.” Star goaltender Jeremy Swayman simply said, “That’s our boy. He belongs here.”

Even rising stars like Matthew Poitras and Mason Lohrei expressed their admiration for Geekie’s commitment to the team and his mentorship behind the scenes.

“He’s not flashy, but he’s the heartbeat. He pushes us to compete every day,” Poitras said.

Focused on the Future

While Geekie’s declaration of loyalty has delighted Bruins Nation, it also underscores a broader organizational focus on homegrown chemistry and sustainable success. With Charlie McAvoy, David Pastrnak, and now Geekie all under long-term contracts, Boston appears determined to construct a contender through continuity, character, and cohesion rather than headline signings.

Asked if he had any goals beyond the extension, Geekie grinned and replied, “Yeah—hoisting that Cup in a Bruins jersey.”

The message is clear: Morgan Geekie isn’t just staying in Boston. He’s all-in.
