BREAKING NEWS: Boston Bruins Legend Bobby Orr Returns as Co-Owner In a monumental announcement, Boston Bruins Owner Jeremy M. Jacobs family has officially declared that Bobby Orr, the Legendary defenseman and long-time face of the franchise, will return to the Franchise in 2025 as a co-owner

Posted on June 11, 2025

In a groundbreaking development that is sending shockwaves through the hockey world, the Boston Bruins have announced that Hall of Fame defenseman and franchise icon Bobby Orr is returning to the organization—this time as a co-owner.

The official statement came today from the Jacobs family, longtime owners of the Bruins, marking a new era in the team’s storied legacy. Jeremy M. Jacobs and his family revealed that Orr will join the Bruins’ ownership group ahead of the 2025–2026 NHL season.

“This is more than a business move—this is personal,” said Charlie Jacobs, CEO of Delaware North’s Boston Holdings and representative of the Bruins’ ownership. “Bobby Orr has embodied what it means to be a Bruin for over half a century. Bringing him back into the fold as a co-owner is a testament to our respect for his legacy and our shared commitment to the future of this franchise.”

Orr’s Iconic Legacy

Bobby Orr, widely regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time, revolutionized the defenseman position with his unparalleled skating, offensive skill, and hockey IQ. During his illustrious career with the Bruins from 1966 to 1976, Orr won eight Norris Trophies, two Hart Trophies, and led the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships—including the iconic 1970 title where he scored the Cup-winning goal in overtime.

His No. 4 jersey was retired by the Bruins, and his statue outside TD Garden remains one of the most visited landmarks in Boston sports history.

A Return Rooted in Passion

Orr, now 77, expressed deep emotion and excitement about rejoining the franchise that shaped his career and left an indelible mark on the city.

“This team, this city, and these fans have given me everything,” Orr said in a heartfelt press conference. “Being part of the Bruins again—not just in spirit but in stewardship—is a tremendous honor. I look forward to helping lead this franchise into the future with the same passion and pride I felt when I first laced up my skates here.”

While details about Orr’s exact role as co-owner have not yet been disclosed, sources close to the organization suggest that he will be involved in both strategic leadership and community engagement initiatives.

Fan and League Reaction

The reaction across the NHL community has been swift and overwhelmingly positive. Bruins fans flooded social media with tributes and celebration, hailing the move as a “homecoming for the heart and soul of Boston hockey.”

Commissioner Gary Bettman also weighed in on the announcement: “Bobby Orr’s influence on the game of hockey is immeasurable. His return to the Bruins in an ownership role is a fitting continuation of his extraordinary legacy.”

Looking Ahead

The Bruins, coming off a strong playoff run in the 2024–25 season, are already considered contenders for next year’s Stanley Cup. With Orr’s return to the organization, the move could add a new emotional and motivational layer to the team’s identity as they look to capture their first Cup since 2011.

As one fan outside TD Garden put it this morning, “It just feels right. Bobby Orr is Boston. And now he’s back where he belongs.”
